Our Story
We have been passionate about martial arts since childhood, we bring over 30 years of combined training and teaching experience to our students! In 2019, we opened Unified Martial Arts and discovered a vital need for physical activities among children with special needs. As special needs parents, we noticed special needs children in our community do not have many options for extra curriculars. Especially where they are understood and accepted for who they are. We knew that we needed to offer our knowledge, skill, and hearts to this part of our community. So, we started sharing our story of having two children with special needs and families started reaching out. We ended our first year with approximately 20% of our students having special needs. Now, five years later, over 40% of our students are special needs!
We love and accept all abilities at UMA. Our classes are integrated with neurotypical and non-neurotypical, learning together. We believe that blending neurotypical and non-neurotypical, in the same classes allows both to learn how to work with one another, just like in daily life. We offer a safe space to learn and progress through challenges on the mat to build life champions.
Seeing our students reach goals, learning new skills and exceed expectations, is our motivation to provide our experience. We celebrate wins, big and small! We would love the chance to celebrate wins with your special child!
